Who to trust? - Amos - 08-14-2015

Which do you consider as a more reliable source for dividends?

seekingalpha gives you announcements + ex + pay but for srce it says 0.18.

gurufocus has a history of dividends (it includes the last one from today) and there it says 0.164.

dividata also says 0.18.

gurufocus is the only one I know that gives history+ex+pay. seekingalpha is the only one I know that gives announcement + ex+pay. so who should I trust?

I thought gurufocus deducted some kind of a tax but the difference between the history of gurufocus and the history of dividata (that also have a history but contains only the amount) is sometimes 9% and sometimes 10%.

When in doubt, I go to the source that I trust, the company web site.

Funny, all were wrong! though gurufocus, with the history, was the closest one because of the rounding 0.1636-> 0.164. So the majority can be wrong.

I was talking about automating this mechanism so browsing to each site is not an option. I was wondering if there are more sources for dividends announcements, thanks.

Every general site that I've ever used has occasional bad data. I ususually use either yahoo or google to import values and use others to confirm or double check when doing DD. For CEFs, there is cefconnect and for ETFs there is etfdb.com. Any time I'm in doubt, the company website or sponsor websites are worth a visit.

the first link is wrong too as it states 0.18 for srce

the second link is where I took the info which is the best because the info is there since the announcement date and not since the ex div (like in nasdaq: http://www.nasdaq.com/dividend-stocks/dividend-calendar.aspx) but again the amount was wrong. Unless I'm missing something and 0.18 is before "something" and 0.164 is after "something", though even the difference is different each time.

Currency conversion or tax withholding probably ... are you not in the US? If you received 0.164 from your brokerage there's probably a line item underneath it for a tax withholding or the conversion from USD to your currency results in a 9% hit

SRCE looks to have paid $0.18 a quarter for the last 6 quarters, including the one getting paid out today

RE: Who to trust? - Amos - 08-14-2015

gurufocus says it's 0.164 and srce site says 0.1636 (rounding to 0.164): http://www.snl.com/irweblinkx/Mobile/Dividends.aspx?iid=100444

So what is this 0.18 all about? I don't have srce stock, it's just an example of a gap that I found out and try to understand its cause.

Quote:At its July 2015 meeting, the Board of Directors approved a cash dividend of $0.18 per common share (unadjusted). The cash dividend is payable to shareholders of record on August 4, 2015. The Board also approved a ten percent (10%) stock dividend of 1st Source common stock. The stock dividend is payable to shareholders of record on August 5, 2015. Both the cash and the stock dividend will be paid on August 14, 2015.

So I still don't understand what is the 0.1636 that is written here: http://www.snl.com/irweblinkx/Mobile/Dividends.aspx?iid=100444 . Also Google finance and Yahoo finance wrote 0.16.

They approved cash dividend of 0.18 and also approved "a ten percent (10%) stock dividend of 1st Source common stock" - what does it mean?

RE: Who to trust? - hendi_alex - 08-14-2015

The 18 cents is 'unadjusted'. My take is that the 10% share dividend was first paid. Then the 18 cents cash payment was adjusted to include the dilutive shares that were issued. Based upon 10% more dilutive shares, the distribution dropped to 16.36 cents per share. 18 cents divided by 1.1 equals 16.36 cents.

RE: Who to trust? - Amos - 08-14-2015

Got it. I wonder how many games are there like that. When comparing dividata.com and gurufocus, this gap is consistent, at least over the last few years.

So eventually everybody's right, it depends on who you're asking.
