Anyone here used an AI app builder for a small side project?
#1
I've been thinking about putting together a small subscription tool for a niche I know well, mostly as a weekend project. I'm not a developer, so I've been looking into the AI app builders that generate working code from plain descriptions. The idea of getting something usable without hiring a developer is appealing, but I'm unsure how far these tools actually get you.

My main worry is the backend stuff: logins, payments, and data handling. I don't want to launch something that falls over the moment a handful of people sign up, or that creates a security headache I can't fix myself. I'm also not sure whether the output is something a real developer could later take over without starting from scratch.

If you've used one of these builders for a small SaaS idea, I'd like to hear how it went and where it fell short. What would you check before committing?

I'm in Wilmington and run a small booking tool for a niche hobby group, so the subscription angle is familiar. Before committing to any builder, I'd want to see what it actually generates for auth and payments — whether it's using established libraries or hand-rolled logic I couldn't audit. I read through How to Build an MVP with AI in One Day and it raised the same handoff question you did: whether the code is clean enough for a developer to inherit. My uncertain part is data handling — I can't tell from demos how backups and access rules get set up. Has anyone here actually handed generated code to a developer later?
